Thanks to longtime Memphis in May volunteer John Joplin for the great tip, sending me in search of Alaskan BBQ master Mike Wiley, who has a restaurant in Juneau... he's on the Piped for Pork team, and is the man behind their first place finish in the seafood competition last year. His secret? That picture should say it all... the quality of fish from the great state of Alaska is without parallel. I can say that because I got a bite of that incredible wild king salmon. I also spent a summer on a salmon processing boat off the isolated island of Kodiak. Saw fish bigger than a whole hog! OK, maybe that's a fish story... My nephew Brandon is working on a boat this summer, and I'm begging him to send me some seafood. But then again, it's always best when it's fresh. I guess I'll stick with catfish. Anybody doing catfish for the seafood competition? That's what's on the front
burner at today's Memphis in May World Championship Barbecue Cooking Contest.
MMMMMMM!

See story as posted May 18th 2006 HERE It's not all about pork!
This is Mike Wiley, a member of Piped for Pork... a most valuable player I would say! Mike brought King salmon, halibut, sweet spot prawns, caribou sausage and this beauty... Alaska king crab! Oh, doesn't it just make you hungry to look at that! Where's the butter?? Mike's got a BBQ restaurant in Juneau, the Spinnin' Pig... where they serve Memphis-style BBQ... I'll definitely stop by next time I'm in Juneau, Mike!
